About Us

AIDSource offers access to a comprehensive collection of HIV-related resources on topics including living with HIV, HIV prevention and treatment, HIV statistics and surveillance, HIV and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) navigation, and more, in both English and Spanish. All resources are reviewed and selected by expert information specialists and librarians. The site tailors information to engage with specific audiences and communities, such as people living with and affected by HIV, the general public, health professionals, students and educators. AIDSource provides a portal to search HIV-related abstracts from various conferences, including the American Conference for the Treatment of HIV (ACTHIV), IDWeek, and the International AIDS Conference (IAC).

AIDSource is maintained by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As the world’s largest biomedical library, NLM maintains and makes available a vast print collection and produces electronic information resources on a wide range of topics that are searched billions of times each year by millions of people around the globe. NLM also supports and conducts research, development, and training in biomedical informatics and health information technology. The Library coordinates a National Network of Libraries of Medicine, a nationwide network of health sciences libraries and information centers with a mission to advance the progress of medicine and improve the public’s health by providing all U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information and improving the public's access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health.

AIDSource services and staff cannot replace direct communication with your health care provider(s). The staff cannot respond to specific medical questions, offer medical advice, give second opinions, or make recommendations about specific therapies. AIDSource neither allows advertising on the website, nor endorses any company or products.

Developed in 1997, NLM created AIDSource to ensure that those seeking information about HIV have a source of quality-reviewed content. The mission of AIDSource is to serve as a reliable source for easy access to HIV-related information from both within and outside of the federal government. AIDSource offers a collection of expert-reviewed resources related to HIV and is organized by topic of interest and audience category. In 2005, it was linked to AIDSinfo to make access easier for users of both sites. The Spanish-language section of AIDSource was developed in 2017 and is available at https://aids.nlm.nih.gov/espanol.
